»Supernatural« at Offscreen Paris.

2023-10-05 von Katja | Keine Kommentare

OFFSCREEN invites you to its second edition from October 18-22 2023 at The Grand Garage Haussmann, an incredible new venue in the center of Paris. OFFSCREEN will present a curated selection of solo shows dedicated to installations, still or moving images.

For OFFSCREEN, Katja Stuke presents various portraits photographed between 2000 and 2020, from the Supernatural series, whose highly ambivalent title refers both to the faces photographed and to the photographs themselves. Through this series, the artist works on the tension captured by the photo, whether it’s the tension before the pistol shot in this portrait of a woman whose extremely colorful outfit fades into the background, or the tension that lies before an athlete’s jump. This tension, directly linked to an action in progress and the central object of Katja Stuke’s portraits, initiates a process that can no longer be reversed.
Katja Stuke is presented by Florian Ebner, Director of Photography at the Centre Pompidou, who has supported the artist’s work for many years. read more »»

Cry Alex

2020-04-22 von Katja | Keine Kommentare

Katja Stuke‘s video work Cry Alex (2019) features two crying women of different nationalities and ages simultaneously presented as a diptych on two tablets. Facing the viewer front-on, they seem to turn directly towards them with their unfiltered emotions or at least to regard the viewer through the camera as the recipient. One sequence shows a young Asian woman in a simple white top in front of a light grey-beige background, her hair is shaved. Overflowing with tears, she reveals herself to an invisible audience, interspersed with short, impetuous sighs.

We are very happy that »You and Me« won the LUMA Rencontres Dummy Book Award Arles 2016»»
»You and Me, A project between Bosnia, Germany and the US« by Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber is a deep and complex body of work about displacement, the Balkan Wars, migration, identity, Germany, USA, religion, and more. But yet, it is also the story of a woman, and her life guides us through all this major, urgent topics. The dummy book is ambitious, extremely well structured, compelling and moving. It has all the ingredients to be their masterpiece. – Elisa Medde (FOAM), jury member.
